Instructions
Preheat oven
Heat to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Mix dry ingredients
In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
Cream butter & sugar
In another bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 2 minutes).
Add egg, vanilla, and milk. Mix well.
Combine & form dough
Gradually add dry ingredients into wet, mixing until a soft dough forms.
Roll into 1-inch balls and, if desired, roll in sugar for extra crunch.
Bake
Place balls on prepared baking sheet, 2 inches apart.
Bake 8–10 minutes until edges are set but centers are soft (do not overbake).
Cool & enjoy
Let cool on baking sheet for 2 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
Optional Variations
Add lemon zest for a fresh twist.
Frost with royal icing or glaze for decorated holiday cookies.
Sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar before baking for a warm spice note.
