Instructions
Prep apples
Wash and dry apples thoroughly. Remove wax by dipping briefly in hot water, then drying well.
Insert sticks into the stem end.
Make candy coating
In a heavy saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water.
Cook over medium-high heat without stirring until mixture reaches 300°F (hard crack stage) on a candy thermometer.
Remove from heat, stir in food coloring and vanilla.
Dip apples
Working quickly, tilt the pan and dip apples, swirling to coat evenly.
Let excess drip off, then place on a greased baking sheet or parchment to harden.
Add stripes
Melt chocolate chips or candy melts in the microwave in 30-second intervals until smooth. Stir in oil if needed.
Transfer to a piping bag (or zip-top bag with tip cut).
Drizzle or pipe stripes across the set candy apples.
Set & serve
Let stand until stripes harden.
Enjoy within 1–2 days for the best crunch.
Flavor Variations
Use green or black candy coating for Halloween, with orange stripes.
Dip finished apples halfway in melted chocolate before striping for a double treat.
Sprinkle crushed nuts or sprinkles on top of the wet stripes for extra texture.
