Instructions:
Preheat oven: to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan or line with parchment paper.
Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
Add butter and milk: Beat in butter and half the milk until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
Add remaining wet ingredients: Add the remaining milk, vanilla, almond extract (if using), and egg whites. Beat on medium speed for 2–3 minutes until light and fluffy.
Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool: Let it cool completely before frosting or dusting with powdered sugar.

Simple Vanilla Buttercream:
Beat together 1/2 cup softened butter, 2 cups powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons milk, and 1 teaspoon vanilla until fluffy.
