Ham and Scalloped Potatoes

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.

  2. Make the Cream Sauce:

    • In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.

    • Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute until bubbly (this forms a roux).

    • Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth and thickened, about 3–5 minutes.

    • Stir in cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Remove from heat once cheese melts.

  3. Assemble the Dish:

    • Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the prepared dish.

    • Top with half of the diced ham.

    • Pour half of the cheese sauce over the top.

    • Repeat with the remaining potatoes, ham, and sauce.

    • Sprinkle extra cheese on top if desired.

  4. Bake:
Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 20–25 minutes, until the top is golden and the potatoes are tender.

  5. Serve:
Let rest for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with parsley if desired.

Tips:

  • For a richer flavor, add ½ cup grated Parmesan or 1 minced garlic clove to the sauce.

  • You can prep it ahead — assemble the casserole, refrigerate, then bake before serving.

  • Great for using holiday ham leftovers.
