Grandma’s Old-Fashioned Bread Pudding with Vanilla Sauce

Instructions
1. Preheat & Prep: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish (around 1.5 quart or 9×9-inch) with butter.

2. Combine Base: In a large bowl, combine bread cubes and raisins (if using). In a small saucepan, warm the milk with the melted butter until just combined.

3. Mix Custard: Pour the warm milk mixture over the bread. Let sit for about 10 minutes to allow soaking. Stir in sugar, beaten eggs, vanilla extract, and nutmeg until well combined.

4. Bake: Transfer mixture to the greased dish and bake for 40–50 minutes, until the center is set and a knife inserted comes out clean.

5. Make the Vanilla Sauce: While pudding bakes, melt butter in a saucepan. Stir in granulated and brown sugars and heavy cream; heat gently until sugars dissolve and mixture thickens slightly. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.

6. Serve: Cut bread pudding into portions and drizzle generously with warm vanilla sauce.

Tips & Variations
Swap raisins for other dried fruits or skip entirely for a purer custard taste.

For an extra indulgent twist, stir a splash of bourbon into the sauce before serving.
