Instructions
Prepare onions: Peel and slice or chop evenly.
Microwave setup: Place onions in a microwave-safe bowl. Add butter or oil, sprinkle with salt (and sugar if desired).
Cover: Use a microwave-safe lid or wrap loosely with microwave-safe plastic wrap, leaving a small gap for steam.
Cook:
Microwave on High for 4–6 minutes, stirring halfway.
For caramelized-style onions, continue cooking in 1–2 minute bursts, stirring each time, until golden and soft (usually 8–10 minutes total).
Serve immediately — spoon over grilled meats, into sandwiches, or mix into dishes.

Show the raw onions in the bowl before microwaving.
