Instructions
1. Preheat Oven
Preheat to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter.
2. Cook the Beef
In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef with chopped onion until no pink remains.
Drain excess grease.
Season with garlic powder, paprika, salt, pepper, and thyme.
3. Make the Creamy Sauce
In a bowl, whisk together cream of mushroom soup and milk until smooth.
4. Assemble the Casserole
Arrange a layer of sliced potatoes in the baking dish.
Spread half the cooked beef mixture over the potatoes.
Drizzle with half the soup mixture and sprinkle with cheese.
Repeat layers: potatoes → beef → soup mixture → cheese.
Finish with a generous cheese layer on top.
5. Bake
Cover with foil and bake 60 minutes, or until potatoes are tender.
Remove foil and bake an additional 15–20 minutes to brown the cheese.
6. Rest & Serve
Let it rest for 10 minutes before cutting for cleaner slices.
Serve with a green salad or steamed vegetables.
Optional Add-Ins
Bacon bits for extra flavor
Sour cream mixed into the sauce for tanginess
