Preparation
Make the dough
In a large bowl, mix flour, yeast, and sugar. Add lukewarm milk, butter, egg, and salt. Knead into a smooth dough (about 5–7 minutes). Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
Prepare the streusel
In a separate bowl, combine flour, sugar, butter, and vanilla. Rub between your fingers until crumbly. Chill until needed.
Shape the pastries
After rising, divide the dough into 6–8 equal portions. Flatten each into a round (about 10–12 cm). Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Add streusel
Sprinkle the prepared streusel generously on top, pressing lightly so they stick.
Bake
Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 20–25 minutes, until golden brown.
Glaze
Mix powdered sugar with milk to make a smooth glaze. Drizzle over the cooled Streuseltaler.
Serving Tip
Enjoy with a hot cup of coffee or tea—they taste best fresh but can be stored airtight for 1–2 days.
